YARD WASTE RECYCLING
|
| |
|

DSWA initiated a test of state-of-the-art technology for the recycling of yard waste at the Jones Crossroads Landfill (SSWMC). Yard waste previously delivered to the facility by customers, was shredded and placed into two windrows on November 29, 2005. For the next four weeks this material will be monitored by sensors and data collected while the yard waste undergoes the natural process of composting. The composting process and test will be completed in approximately 8 to 12 weeks.
For information on composting in your own yard, click here.
)
Yard waste is ground into the consistence of mulch prior to recycling.
)
The natural process of composting is assisted by the use of a specially designed cover that helps maintain the optimum moisture content and control odors.
Visit www.gore.com for more information on the cover being used.
)
Oxygen is consumed when the composting process is working. Blowers add air when sensors indicate that oxygen is required. For more information on the system being used visit www.gore.com.
