Trash Can Dan greets kids at Earth Day 2009
The Delaware Solid Waste Authority’s Earth Day Festival is held each year at Killens Pond State Park in Felton, Delaware from 10am-3pm. This day focuses on the nationally celebrated Earth Day by bringing together many different exhibitors with environmentally friendly messages. There are different educational booths available for the children and their families to visit. Booths range in topics from recycling to composting and the Delaware Envirothon is even in attendance. This day is also a day for fun so there are many other activities from face painting, inflatables, and pony rides available for the children.
As children arrive at the Festival, they are given an Earth Day Passport. Children are able to follow their Earth Day Passport to various booths in the park to learn more about Earth Day and the environment. At each stop, they will get a stamp on their passport. The Earth Day Passports must be completed for the children to enter to win one of the Earth Day prizes. There are three prizes awarded from the Festival. First place will receive a computer, second place will receive a bike and helmet, and third place will receive a $50.00 bookstore gift card.
Trash Can Dan is always at the Festival saying hello to all the families that are there to support our environment. Make sure to stop by and say hello when you see him! We hope to see you there!
